What Puts People Off Cosmetic Treatments

A survey of 500 women by OnePoll has shown that only half of those expressing an interest in cosmetic procedures such as facial injectables or liposuction thought they would ever go through with it.

Cost was the top reason overall for not going ahead, although the price would naturally be a bigger consideration for surgical procedures.

However, apart from the financial commitment, the main deterrents to going ahead were

    1. concern from hearing about horror stories about botched treatment in the media
    2. worry about looking ‘unnatural’ or ‘fake’
    3. not knowing which practitioners are qualified to perform the procedures

It is right and sensible to be cautious about having any cosmetic treatment done, especially for the first time. But to put these concerns into context is quite helpful:

    Horror Stories

There are risks and complications with cosmetic treatments just as there are with all medical procedures. However, the rate of occurrence is actually relatively low. A good practitioner will be trained to give balanced advice and minimise these risks for each individual patient.

Look for a medically qualified injector who has treated hundreds or thousands of patients. At SkinViva, cosmetic treatments are only carried out by GMC and GDC registered doctors and dentists who have been trained in aesthetic treatments.

    Looking Fake/Unnatural

The team at SkinViva work on the ‘less is more’ principle. They won’t freeze a forehead or over-pump lips. It isn’t good for the patient and not good for the company either.

When choosing a practitioner, discuss your concerns and ask to see photos of previous work.

    Qualifications

Surprisingly, there are no legal requirements for a practitioner to have any form of qualification to actually administer cosmetic injections like Botox or dermal fillers, so don’t take this for granted. Ask about your practitioner’s qualifications and if in doubt, go elsewhere.

The advice in general is to choose sensibly – look for well-qualified practitioners who specialise in cosmetic treatments rather than offering them as a side-line.  Listen to your heart as well as your head and only go ahead when you feel confident and comfortable to do so.

Take advantage of a free consultation, where available, to vet the practitioner before you commit.

SkinViva offers free consultations with the aesthetic medical professional who would carry out your treatment – an ideal opportunity to discuss any concerns in advance.

    Free Consultations

SkinViva offer free consultations at their main clinic in Manchester and also at an extensive choice of conveniently located locations across the North West, including Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Manchester, Stockport and Bury. A consultation is always required prior to any cosmetic treatment and this is arranged with an experienced aesthetic clinician, who would be able to carry out treatment at the same appointment if required.
