Jowls and Jawline

Ageing that hides or disrupts the normally straight and defined jawline can be treated with cleverly placed injections, which last up to 24 months.

Why choose jowls and jawline treatment?

You may have noticed your jaw line has lost its definition and shape. Your jawline may no longer be as shapely or tight with a loss of that youthful triangular shape. Furthermore, you might have lost volume in the chin area and under the jawline leading to skin hanging down in the form of jowls. This part of the ageing process can often be accompanied by lost volume volume in the cheeks and under the eyes.

Through cleverly placed injections, these problems can often be helped by our aesthetic medical professionals.

How does jowls and jawline treatment work?

Injectable treatment for jowls and jawline tightening and re-shaping

With gravity and ageing, the skin can start to sag and droop around the jawline leading to jowls. The appearance of jowls however can often be significantly reduced by injecting hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar in the body) in the form of a dermal filler.

This replaces the volume which has been lost over time and so gives a more pleasing appearance.

Where appropriate, we are also able to use injections at key points around the jawline to lift and tighten the jawline, thereby restoring a more youthful look.

    Got a Question?

How do I know what treatment to have?
The first step is a consultation with one of our Aesthetic Clinicians. They'll perform a full examination in order to assess your face and diagnose any concerns with jowls and jawline. Only then can they recommend whether treatment is appropriate and if so, what that treatment would be. We offer a variety of options which can be tailored or combined to suit the individual. The clinician will provide full information on the potential risks as well as benefits and costs of treatment. The objective is to ensure you're fully equipped to make a fully informed decision based on the facts.
What's caused my jowls in the first place?
The ageing process means we lose elasticity in our skin so jawline droops and sags. In addition, we lose volume through our fat pads starting to break down. Over time then the skin empties just like a balloon deflating. In combination with gravity, this then leads to the skin hanging down giving that jowling look. Using a dermal filler to replace volume then is a little like putting air back into the balloon pumping it back up.
How is BOTOX® used differently in the jaw area?
Unlike dermal fillers which are used to replace lost volume in the jowls and build back up a supporting structure, BOTOX® is used to relax specific key muscles such that the shape of the jawline is improved through tightening or lifting.
How long with the procedure on my jawline and jowls take?
As with many procedures this all depends on the extent of correction required. The BOTOX® injections used to create lift and tightening of your jawline can often be completed in minutes. To replace lost volume using dermal fillers, a little more time is required but in combination we would expect that your procedure will be safely and successfully completed in less than 45 minutes typically.
    Does it hurt?
The area around your jowls and jawline tend to be less sensitive than some other parts of the face. In addition, the needles we use to administer BOTOX® are super-fine meaning you barely feel the treatment. For dermal filler injections, our recommended product Juvederm contains built-in anaesthetic and we also apply a numbing cream to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. Most customers report little or no discomfort at all
How many injections will I need?
This will depend on the extent of the work needed on your jawline but typically 5-7 injections for each side would be a rough guide.
What dermal fillers do you use?
The SkinViva aesthetic medical professionals can offer you a range of the all the market-leading dermal fillers for if you have a preference however our recommended product for the best results is Juvederm.
Are the results to my jawline permanent?
No, none of the treatments completed by the SkinViva aesthetic medical professionals are permanent. Dermal filler treatments (depending on the product you choose) will last anywhere from 6-24 months. BOTOX® treatments will last up to 4 months. Our faces change naturally over time so we believe re-visiting for additional treatment on a regular basis is the best way to keep loving your look as you continue to age
When the results fade, will my wrinkles be worse than they were before?
No. Your appearance will steadily go back to how it was before you underwent the treatment. This makes it important to ensure you visit the SkinViva aesthetic medical professionals for regular reviews and additional treatment when appropriate to do so.
When will I see an improvement to my jowls and jawline?
Replacing volume in your jaw area to reduce the effect of jowls is done using dermal filler which has instant results. BOTOX® to tighten and re-shape your jawline takes up to 14 days to see the full effect.
    Can I fly after treatment?
Yes, there is no problem with flying after having treatment.
Can I go in the sun or use sunbeds after treatment?
You should avoid heat for 24 hours. This includes the sun, sunbeds and hot baths and showers.
Can I drink alcohol after treatment?
For the following 24 hours after you receive treatment, you must not drink alcohol. After 24 hours, it is fine to drink Alcohol.
Can I have this if I am having other treatments? Such as glycolic peels, facials, dermaroller?
Yes you can. If you are having injectable treatment THEN something else, you must leave it 48 hours. If you had another treatment and then you wanted the injectable treatment, you would have to wait 2 weeks before having your treatment.
Can I go running after my treatment?
No, you must wait until 24 hours after your treatment before you can go running or do any other form of strenuous exercise.
How long do I have to wait between treatments?
You need to wait 12 weeks between full treatment doses.
How long after treatment can I have a follow up?
The effects of BOTOX® treatment are not seen immediately. You should start to notice a difference about 3-7 days after your appointment and the treatment will be at its maximum at day 14. We will send you a text message after 14 days to check how your treatment is looking.
Do I need a follow up appointment?
Not necessarily. Many people do not need to come back in for an adjustment. It is a personal choice, not a clinical necessity. We will send you a text message after 14 days to check how your treatment is looking.
