Dermal Fillers

The most versatile of treatments, they are used in every part of the face. A long-lasting, natural-looking treatment that can be used to lift and reshape features and fill out and smooth away wrinkles. At SkinViva, we use the world-renowned Juvederm Ultra range of dermal fillers.

Why choose dermal fillers?

Regain your skin’s lost volume – instantly – with SkinViva’s range of Juvéderm dermal fillers.

Our expert aesthetic medical professionals, who understand the complex proportions, ratios, angles and underlying anatomy of the face, use dermal filler as their primary tool to achieve the beautiful look that you desire. This level of understanding means our clinicians can revolumise, sculpt and sometimes even re-shape areas of the face using filler, and the best part? All of this can be achieved without the dreaded ‘fake’ or ‘done’ look.

We also offer the premium Juvéderm dermal filler range, which is smoother and longer lasting. So just how can dermal fillers be used in such incredible ways?

Let’s take a look at 3 of the most effective treatments that use fillers:

  1. Non-surgical Nose Job: Our aesthetic medical professionals can use dermal fillers to sculpt and re-shape your nose, offering a much less invasive alternative to surgical rhinoplasty. There’s no downtime with a non-surgical rhinoplasty either; you could have the treatment done on your lunch break!
  2. Lip Enhancement: The experience and skill needed to create the perfect lips with filler is incredibly hard to find. Fortunately, our clinicians have it in abundance, which means we can carefully volumise your lips.SkinViva aesthetic medical professionals use the key principles of Da Vinci’s golden ratio to achieve a fabulous overall look. We don’t do ‘trout pouts’ here at SkinViva, focusing on the lips without taking the rest of the face into consideration results in overtreatment and ‘fake’ looking lips.
  3. Facial Profiling: Using key scientific principles of beauty to rebalance facial features such as the nose, chin and lips. Facial profiling treatment using dermal filler combines lip enhancement, chin augmentation and the non-surgical nose job

    How do dermal fillers work?

The filler is a copy of a naturally-occurring sugar in your skin. The world’s safest and most reliable dermal filler is injected directly under the skin using a fine needle. The treatment is relatively quick, incorporates local anaesthetic for added comfort. Your aesthetic medical professionals will help you decide which filler is best for the results you want, and depending on the filler the effect can last for 6 to 9 months or up to 2 years.

Used primarily in the lower half of the face in areas such as nose-to-mouth lines, dermal filler is a naturally occurring gel that is injected beneath the surface of the wrinkle to plump it out, restoring a smoother and more youthful surface. It is very effective at gently easing out lines and creases that can appear with age.

Dermal fillers are also great for subtly enhancing lips. This can be a popular choice where you’re seeing the signs of ageing in your lips, or fed up of unsightly smoker’s lines, or simply because you’ve always dreamed of having a fuller smile or a pretty pout.

Treatment is relatively quick and painless, as many modern dermal fillers incorporate a local anesthetic to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

    Got a Question?

Which areas can dermal fillers treat?
Essentially, the lower-half of the face. As well as plumping up lips, dermal fillers correct ever-present lines and lost volume around the forehead, cheeks and upper lip. They also add volume to thinning or crepey skin across hands and the upper body.
What is dermal filler and how does it work?
Skin is made up of three vital layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. The hypodermis, the deepest level of skin, consists of fatty tissue, which cushions the layers above it. Immediately on top of that is the dermis, which contains collagen and elastin – two key attributes to a youthful appearance. Constantly renewed in the young, production of these slow dramatically with age. The epidermis, or top layer, is the home of crucial cell renewal. In young skin, cells are replaced every 15-30 days, but this slows to every 60 days in later adulthood. Dermal filler replaces lost volume and treats static facial lines by replenishing the natural hyaluronic acid content of the skin.
What is the difference between lip fillers and lip enhancements?
Lip Fillers and Lip Enhancement are one and the same thing. They both achieve the same goal. We have the means to subtly improve our lips’ fullness, definition and overall shape with lip fillers such as Juvederm ULTRA SMILE.
Which dermal filler should I choose?
There are several variants of dermal filler on the market, which all differ according to the substance they are made from, the areas they treat and how long they last. Your fully-qualified SkinViva Clinician will advise which is the best for you. Our most popular brand is Juvederm ULTRA, which contains a comfort-inducing anesthetic, but we also use Juvederm VOLUMA, Radiesse, Restylane, Belotero, and Teosyal depending on your needs.
How long does dermal filler last?
Juvederm ULTRA lasts 6-9 months. At SkinViva, we also use Juvederm VOLUMA and Radiesse, which maintain their effects for up to 18 months and one year respectively.
Do I need an initial consultation before a dermal filler treatment?
Our Clinicians will always provide a consultation before treatment, but you can usually have the treatment during the same appointment.
    Does it hurt?
Our most popular dermal filler, Juvederm ULTRA, has an in-built anaesthetic called lidocaine which enhances comfort. We can also use anaesthetic cream or a dental block if you’d prefer.
Will I get a so-called trout pout with dermal fillers?
No. Famous cases of these resulted from permanent lip implants – not the non-permanent hyaluronic acid dermal fillers we use. In addition to this, SkinViva Clinicians are highly experienced at providing a natural, subtle result.
Will the dermal filler become hard or noticeable to touch?
No. The dermal fillers we use take on the characteristics of the body’s own tissue so the product itself won’t be noticeable.
How many injections will I need?
4-6 per area of the face.
How long will the dermal fillers treatment take?
The procedure itself can be completed in 15-30 minutes, but new customers will require a 45-minute appointment.
How much will a dermal filler treatment cost?
We charge per syringe of dermal filler. Deeper lines or greater volume loss require more syringes of dermal filler.
    Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes. Only 1 in 20,000 treatments result in an allergic reaction. Although dermal fillers can be reversed using another injection, this requirement is extremely rare.
What do I need to consider after the dermal filler treatment?
There is no recovery time with dermal fillers, so you can immediately resume normal daily activities. Patients should avoid excessive alcohol, exercise or sun for the first 24 hours.
Where does the dermal filler go after the results fade?
The gel is broken down naturally and reabsorbed by the skin.
When the results fade, will my wrinkles be worse than they were before?
No. Your appearance will simply return to how it was before you began dermal filler treatment.
Are there any side effects with dermal fillers?
Most possible side effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: redness, minor swelling, itching, tenderness around injection site and potential lumps in the treated area. These can be reduced by massage. If you are prone to cold sores, there is a small chance that one will occur following a lip enhancement. In very rare instances (1 in 15,000) blood supply from the smallest vessels can be disrupted causing scab formation and, in some cases, scarring.
    Who should avoid dermal fillers?
Women who are pregnant and/or breast-feeding, people with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis and consumers of blood thinning medications such as Warfarin or Heparin.
How is my skin made up?
Skin is made up of three vital layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. The hypodermis, the deepest level of skin, consists of fatty tissue, which cushions the layers above it. Immediately on top of that is the dermis, which contains collagen and elastin – two key attributes to a youthful appearance. Constantly renewed in the young, production of these slow dramatically with age. The epidermis, or top layer, is the home of crucial cell renewal.
