The Sun ‘Had Our Fill’ Campaign for Safer Cosmetic Treatments

The Sun has launched a new campaign to improve safety of Britain’s booming aesthetic treatments industry.

While the treatments are increasingly popular, the Sun is raising awareness of the sad fact that the industry remains unregulated, so there are no minimum requirements for practitioners to have any particular qualifications, skill or training before they buy or inject dermal fillers. This puts patients at risk and there are many stories of bad experiences. The consequences can be devastating when things go wrong.

According to The Sun:

  • “83% of fillers are performed by people with no medical training, often in unsanitary environments – with devastating results.”
  • “Women have been left with rotting tissue, needing lip amputations, lumps and even blinded by botched jobs.”
  • “Despite the dangers, there is no legal age limit for dermal filler”

The Sun’s ‘Had Our Fill’ campaign is calling for:

  • Minimum age of 18 for having fillers to be made law
  • Crackdown on social media inappropriate promotion of dermal fillers
  • Government-backed central register for practitioners with accredited qualifications

The Sun’s campaign has attracted high profile backing.

TV’s Lorraine Kelly said:

“It’s so important to make young women aware of the dangers of these procedures,” she said.

“I’d never take the risk myself as I’ve seen what happens when it all goes horribly wrong.

“Lives are wrecked in search of a warped idea of ‘perfection’.”

Lizzie Cundy has shared her own experience of fillers going wrong:

“It was like something from a horror film, my vision had gone blurry, I was blinking and trying to focus and I couldn’t.

“It makes me sick to think I risked my sight.”
