Lip filler reversal and replacement results

Corrective treatment case study

SkinViva’s Dr Mona recently saw a patient who was seeking help and corrective treatment after very disappointing experience of lip filler treatment elsewhere.

Heavy handed lip fillers had left her with results that were so inflated and uneven they could be described as disfiguring. Fortunately, the patient had temporary dermal fillers, which is a reversible procedure.

Dr Mona carefully assessed this clients’ lips after she had received treatment at an alternative clinic.  The client and clinician agreed that corrective work was required as too much lip filler had been injected, which had migrated into the areas around the lips and the results were not symmetrical and looked unnatural. The shape was not ideal as excessive volume masked the contours of the mouth. Far from the defined but plump shape she was hoping for, the client was left with lips that were exaggerated both from the front and from the side, protruding to the extent that she was worried about the ‘trout pout’ effect.

Firstly, Dr Mona administered lip filler reversal using hyalase (also known as hyaluronidase). This is an injectable treatment which works to break down hyaluronic acid dermal filler in the skin, reducing the excessive volume and returning the skin to a normal state.

The client was still keen to have a subtle lip enhancement, so Dr Mona carried out this treatment at a separate appointment, as we normally recommend leaving it at least a couple of weeks after dermal filler reversal before having a further dermal filler procedures. Using a relatively small amount of product combined with her skill as an expert injector, Dr Mona was able to sculpt an attractive shape with modest volume. The results are natural and symmetrical, yet provided the boost the patient was looking for without migration, lumps or bulky looking filler

Dr Mona was truly delighted to be able to transform this clients look with a reversal and retreat, harmonising her face and producing and outstanding natural looking result.

If you’ve had a bad experience with dermal fillers or Botox, the first logical port of call should be to contact the practitioner who carried them out. Yet all too often, we find that clients have had no joy. Practitioners have not replied or even blocked their number.

SkinViva Clinic regularly sees clients who are looking for help after disappointment with their results elsewhere. Potential dermal filler problems include lumpy results as well as overdone hamster cheek and duck lips type effects. We see clients whose BOTOX injections has left them with one eyebrow higher than the other, as well as those who find that one area of enhanced volume looks unsympathetic to the rest of the facial features.

At SkinViva, all injectable treatments are carried out by highly experienced Aesthetic Clinicians. Our team is all medically trained and has additional training and expertise in non-surgical treatments. They’re also trained in handling complications should anything go wrong. We work hard to product natural-looking results for our clients.

We welcome clients seeking corrective treatments such as reversal or adjustments. The consultation is free and with no obligation, so it’s worth finding out if we can help.

We’re also happy to advise on suspected complications, but it is important to get rapid care and in some circumstances, you may find the NHS is the best option.

    Lip filler regulations

It is important for patients to be aware that the dermal filler market remains unregulated, which means that cosmetic injections can be carried out by anybody with no training and no medical background at all. There is also little restriction on importing dermal fillers from overseas, which exposes clients to the risk of unapproved or unregulated products.

As we know from media horror stories, in the wrong hands, treatments like dermal fillers can leave disastrous results.

Always choose your practitioner carefully. Beware of prices that are too good to be true, it’s worth paying for safety. Look for:

    • A clinician who has medical training PLUS additional training AND experience in non-surgical treatments
    • Top brand products that are tested and approved for use
    • An established clinic with a team who can help
    • Avoid permanent fillers at all costs
