Injectable Treatments vs Cosmetic Surgery

Injectable treatments have become increasingly commonplace over the last decade or so and are now seen as compelling alternatives to cosmetic surgery for facial anti-ageing – indeed, they offer a number of advantages for those choosing to invest in treatments.

Let’s take a look at comparing traditional ‘under the knife’ cosmetic surgery with injectable anti-ageing and enhancement treatments, such as dermal fillers and Botox®, which are non-surgical and non-invasive.

    Price

    Injectables are cheaper than surgery

We all like to save money and there is a huger price differential between having cosmetic surgery and injectables, which is a really appealing benefit.

SkinViva’s Botox treatments in Manchester start from £180 for 1 area and there’s also the option of spreading the payment over 3 months via SkinViva’s monthly payment scheme.

By comparison, some example current average UK price ranges for popular facial cosmetic surgery procedures are listed below:

    • Rhytidectomy (facelift) – £6,080
    • Rhinoplasty (nose job) – £4,200
    • Upper blepharoplasty (eyelid reduction) £3,113
    • Lower blepharoplasty (eyebag reduction) – £3,900
    • Brow lift – £4,565

Surgery is a one-off investment while fillers and BOTOX need repeating to maintain the benefit. However, you could have Botox over 30 times before reaching the cost of a face lift!

    Lasting results?

    Surgery lasts longer

As above, surgery is a longer term investment.

However, the fact that injectable treatments are not permanent can actually be seen as a benefit:

    • The style of treatment can be adjusted over time and adapted according to individual needs, e.g. when clients want a more natural look or a stronger result. Or perhaps changing from dermal fillers to Botox or vice versa; or using a combination of both
    • In some cases, injectable anti-ageing treatments are only required for a short time period use in order to significantly reduce the visible signs of fine line and wrinkles and aide in retraining the muscles to ease the formation of further lines. Equally, longer term use of Botox is well-documented for its preventative effect in the formation of future fine lines and wrinkles
    • Clients can simply stop having injectable treatments if they wish to, while surgery is largely irreversible

    Recovery

Injectables have little to no ‘downtime’

Cosmetic surgery is a major medical procedure, usually involving general anaesthetic. This means time in hospital and then time off work to recover. Potentially wearing bandages and having to go back for numerous aftercare appointments.

“Going under the knife” also potentially means more pain associated with the recovery and even the risk of post-surgical infection.

By comparison, injectables are very straightforward. Most clients return straight to normal activities, with the exception of strenuous exercise and excessive heat, there is little in the way of recovery requirements. SkinViva treatments are carried out by expert, trained clinicians using the very latest ultra-fine needles, any small signs of redness usually fade in the first few hours after your treatment takes place. There is extremely low risk of infection or complications.

    Pain Level

    Injectables generally pain-free

Cosmetic surgery involves cutting through the skin and tissues. Although pain can be effectively controlled using medication, it is a lot more invasive than a few injections.

SkinViva’s non-surgical cosmetic procedures, involving Botox and Dermal Fillers are carried out using superfine needles. We are able to use numbing cream beforehand if required to ensure complete comfort. There is very little residual pain or discomfort after the injections have been completed.

    Availability

    Injectables are widely available

Cosmetic surgery requires a trip to a private hospital and at least one night (usually a few) to recover.

By comparison, Botox and dermal fillers are now available in most towns through specially trained doctors, dentists, nurses and other medically trained practitioners.
