Hyperhidrosis Treatment for Problem Perspiration

Sweat stains are the pits…

Damp patches under the armpits? Yellow marks on a white shirt? Armpits fading on a dark coloured top?

Underarm sweating is something we’d prefer not to share, so when it’s visible to other people, it is simply embarrassing.

excessive sweatingWe’ve all been there, it’s a warm sunny afternoon and you have chosen your favourite fitted top to wear. To your dismay, you find that after a while the warm weather has taken its toll and your antiperspirant has failed, leaving you with the dreaded visible pit stains.

It doesn’t have to be a particularly hot day – although it tends to be even worse when it’s warm. Stress can also increase the amount of sweat produced, making you feel even more uncomfortable and giving you one more problem to worry about.

Although it can seem like your worst nightmare, sweating is a natural (if not inconvenient) part of life. Fundamentally, sweating is designed to cool the body down.

However, for some people, the amount they sweat can seem unnaturally high. This is a condition known as excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis.

Excessive Sweating?

Excessive sweating is medically known as hyperhidrosis. This is a condition where patients sweat is above average. Even strong antiperspirants fail to keep the person dry.

Symptoms are:

  • damp underarms
  • body odour
  • struggling with sweating even on a cool day
  • worrying about people noticing
  • embarrassment

Hyperhidrosis Injections

Injections are now available which treat excessive sweating quickly and reliably, giving great relief for the sufferer.

The non-surgical treatment involves injecting Botox® (botulinum toxin) into the underarm area. BOTOX works to block the signals which trigger sweating and literally dries up the condition almost immediately with full results developing over a couple of days.

Treatment will last around 6-9 months, at which point it can be repeated. However, some lucky patients find that treatment seems to break the cycle, giving them a longer term benefit.
