Dos & Don’ts Following Treatment

Essential Aftercare Advice

This information is provided for clients who have had injectable aesthetic treatment at SkinViva. You will also have been provided with aftercare advice when you attended the clinic.

BOTOX® DOs & Don’ts Following Treatment

  • DO stay upright for 2 hours after treatment. This is to avoid pressure in the area and to avoid increased blood flow which might cause the BOTOX® to be dispersed and therefore not last as long.
  • DO move the injected areas for the first hour after treatment by making pronounced facial expressions, e.g. frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows. This helps the BOTOX® reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
  • DO avoid getting too hot 48 hours after treatment, for example strenuous exercise, drinking alcohol, hot weather, sun beds, sauna, steam room. This is because heat causes increased blood flow which might cause the BOTOX® to be dispersed and therefore not last as long.
  • DON’T apply makeup or have a spray tan for 6 hours after treatment. This is to avoid the risk of infection.
  • DON’T apply pressure when cleansing your face. Use gentle strokes away from the eyes. This is to avoid preventing the BOTOX® to reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
  • DON’T wear tight caps/garments in the area that has been injected. This is to avoid preventing the BOTOX® to reach the cells it needs to in order to work.
  • DON’T have facial massages, facial electric stimulation, dermaroller, semi-permanent make up, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for 2 weeks after your SkinViva treatment.

  • I found it interesting when you explained that it is important to keep your head upright for at least 2 hours after getting a botox treatment. My wife wants to get some of her wrinkles under her eyes removed. I’ll be sure to share this information with her if she does end up getting a botox treatment.

  • My mother has been wanting to try botox because she’s very insecure about her wrinkles. I’m glad you shared this; I’ll make sure to remind my mom not to drink any alcoholic beverages after the procedure. I’ll also keep in mind to tell her that it’ll be best to avoid applying too much pressure on her face whilst cleansing.
