It’s World Breastfeeding Week, so we thought we’d touch upon a topic we get asked a lot at SkinViva. We have many clients asking if they can have Botox or anti-ageing treatments whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. The very short answer to this common question is no –we would certainly advise to not have any Botox treatment whilst you’re pregnant.
Sorry ladies, it’s one more thing to add to the long list of things you cannot do during pregnancy and breastfeeding!!
Allergan, the manufacturers of Botox, specifically mention that Botox “should not be used in women of child bearing age who are not on contraception”. In other words, this mean a big fat NO during pregnancy.
The safety profile and reasoning behind this advice is unknown, and although it is probably unlikely to be harmful to the baby, as Botox is a prescription drug, our doctors at SkinViva certainly wouldn’t take the risk of treating clients during this time.
Again, like with pregnancy, it is advised that Botox is not administered during breastfeeding. Although the safety profile and effects Botox may have on your baby have not been tested and therefore unknown, any medical practitioner (such as our Doctors at SkinViva) would not be comfortable administering or treating clients.
Maybe Botox is out of the question. But we hear you… surely there is something to help you feel refreshed and revitalised during (let’s face it) a tiring time? As a team of medical professionals, we’d advise from starting any new treatments right now. Your body is currently going through a hell of a lot! Who knows how your body might react to anything new.
So for now, “pregnancy glow” is nature’s way of telling you, you’re fabulous just the way you are! There’s no need to rush these things. The clinic will still be here in 9 months’ time 😊
By all means, book ahead for an appointment though. We’re on hand throughout the week to answer any questions you may have. Call the Customer Experience girls on 0161 850 1141.
