Dr Tim Pearce, Medical Director and Head Clinician at SkinViva, has given his feedback on one of the most commonly asked questions by clients at his Manchester clinic… How long does BOTOX take to work?
Dr Tim explains that the time it takes for BOTOX to work is actually different to the time it takes for you to start noticing the results.
BOTOX works by trimming the receptor off a nerve which then prevents the nerve from sending messages to the muscle and stops the muscle from contracting as strongly. BOTOX injections start to do this from a few hours after they are injected into the skin however it takes a while before the wrinkles caused by muscle contractions actually start to relax.
Dr Tim says that there can be a wide variation in the clients that attend his clinic and the time it takes for them to notice the effects of their BOTOX results. Some clients can notice reduced movement within the first day or two while others can take as long as 8-10 days to feel any effects.
In terms of when you can expect to actually see the results, Dr Tim says around two weeks is the norm. Once wrinkles have relaxed and the skin has started to repair, you should see the benefits increase over the next couple of months, before the BOTOX starts to wear off around the 3-4 month mark.
