    What is PRP treatment?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a patient’s own blood.

PRP is concentrated with platelets, which are blood cells that contain growth factors. These growth factors help to stimulate the body’s natural healing process.

    How does PRP treatment work?

To perform PRP treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood. The concentrated platelets are then delivered into the treatment area. For skin treatments, this is sometimes done using a needle, but SkinViva use microneedling for a wider and more even coverage. Microneedling works to create a series of mini channels which the prepared solution can penetrate. The concentrated platelets stimulate localised healing and rejuvenation in the body, focused around the area where treatment was delivered. Over the following weeks, the body produces new skin cells, collagen and elastin which improves the texture, health and appearance of the skin.
