You may have noticed your jaw line has lost it’s definition and shape. Your jawline may no longer be as shapely or tight with a loss of that youthful triangular shape. Furthermore, you might have lost volume in the chin area and under the jawline leading to skin hanging down in the form of jowls. This part of the ageing process can often be accompanied by lost volume volume in the cheeks and under the eyes. Through cleverly placed injections, these problems can often be helped by our doctors.

Botox injections at key points around the jawline help to relax key muscles (specifically a thin muscle called the Platysma muscle). The effect is that muscles on the upper part of the face become stronger and this causes an effect over a 7-14 day period of lifting and tightening the jawline.

With gravity and ageing, the skin can start to sag and droop around the jawline leading to jowls. The appearance of jowls however can often be significantly reduced by injecting hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar in the body) in the form of a dermal filler. This replaces the volume which has been lost over time and so, in combination with Botox, re-shapes the jawline line to restore a more youthful look.

Got a Question?

The ageing process means we lose elasticity in our skin so jawline droops and sags. In addition, we lose volume through our fat pads starting to break down. Over time then the skin empties just like a balloon deflating. In combination with gravity, this then leads to the skin hanging down giving that jowling look. Using a dermal filler to replace volume then is a little like putting air back into the balloon pumping it back up.

Botox can be used in a couple of different ways to help you love your look. Unlike dermal fillers which are used to replace lost volume in the jowls and build back up a supporting structure, Botox is used to relax specific key muscles such that the shape of the jawline is improved through tightening or lifting.

As with many procedures this all depends on the extent of correction required. The Botox injections used to create lift and tightening of your jawline can often be completed in minutes. To replace lost volume using dermal fillers, a little more time is required but in combination we would expect that your procedure will be safely and successfully completed in less than 45 minutes typically.

The area around your jowls and jawline tend to be less sensitive than some other parts of the face. In addition, the needles we use to administer Botox are super-fine meaning you barely feel the treatment. For dermal filler injections, our recommended product Juvederm contains built-in anaesthetic and we also apply a numbing cream to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. Most customers report little or no discomfort at all

This will depend on the extent of the work needed on your jawline but typically 5-7 injections for each side would be a rough guide.

The SkinViva doctors can offer you a range of the all the market-leading dermal fillers for if you have a preference however our recommended product for the best results is Juvederm.

No, none of the treatments completed by the SkinViva doctors are permanent. Dermal filler treatments (depending on the product you choose) will last anywhere from 6-24 months. Botox treatments will last up to 4 months. Our faces change naturally over time so we believe re-visiting for additional treatment on a regular basis is the best way to keep loving your look as you continue to age

No. Your appearance will steadily go back to how it was before you underwent the treatment. This makes it important to ensure you visit the SkinViva doctors for regular reviews and additional treatment when appropriate to do so.

You should have your Botox treatment before having semi-permanent make up treatment on your eye-brows. This is because the Botox can move the position of your eye-brows temporarily.

Yes you can. If you are having Botox treatment THEN another treatment, you must leave it 48 hours. If you had another treatment and then you wanted Botox, you would have to wait 2 weeks before having your Botox treatment.

No, you must wait until 24 hours after your Botox treatment before you can go running or do any other form of strenuous exercise.

No! Botox is not addictive. It does really work though so, like a good haircut, most clients do want to keep up the fab results once they’ve started having Botox and come back every 4 months or so to have another treatment.

You need to wait 12 weeks between full treatment doses.

The effects of Botox treatment are not seen immediately. You should start to notice a difference about 3-7 days after your appointment and the treatment will be at its maximum at day 14. We will send you a text message after 14 days to check how your treatment is looking. If you would like an adjustment to your Botox, you’re welcome to book back in to be seen within the first month after your initial treatment and this will be free of charge.

Not necessarily. Many people do not need to come back in for an adjustment. It is a personal choice, not a clinical necessity. We will send you a text message after 14 days to check how your treatment is looking. If you would like an adjustment to your Botox, you’re welcome to book back in to be seen within the first month after your initial treatment.
